Tad F. Fountain Hills, AZ. - As for rental cars, Hertz and Avis are always competitive. Usually the weekly is best, and try (if you can or don't need a bigger car) a compact. Also Budget off airport, like near the beaches is lower also. Unfortunately it is pretty much peak season there, don't go and not reserve expecting to get a car, Quite often Tampa is sold out of cars in winter and they won't have any for a day or two, this lasts until spring break is over, end of March. Taxis aren't cheap, either in Tampa or St.Pete/Clearwater.There is good public transportation in St.Pete or Clearwater areas but may not go to where you want. Tampa also. They probably have a web site but I don't know about schedules for St.Pete/Clearwater, and Hartline for Tampa area. Mike H. Brooklyn, NY. Last time I was in Sarasota it was full of slow-driving seniors and was FAR too crowded for comfort. That whole stretch of coast is pretty densely populated. Expect to sit in traffic much of the time. I did have a good time at the Salvador Dali museum. It's in downtown St. Pete. You can also visit Ft. Desoto. Anything much further north than central St. Pete will be a slow, annoying crawl through dozens of stop lights. Which is a shame, since Clearwater, Tarpon Springs, etc. are very nice. |
