The best beach in the greater Tampa Area is Siesta Key, near Sarasota. Fine, white, powdery sand and an extremely wide beach. If that is too far of drive or you have a reason to go to Clearwater, do not stop at the main beach at Clearwater. Go across the bridge on the south end of the beach and you will find Sand Key. Technically, it is a county park, but the beach is nicer, it tends to be a little quieter and parking is generally easier to come by. Atlantic beaches are inconsistent, at best. However, if you want waves, you have to head to the Atlantic because you will not find much wave action on the Gulf of Mexico side.
